Chelsea Loft
5th Avenue & 29th Street, NYC

We were asked to convert a large commercial loft which previously housed a textile manufacturer into a comfortable family refuge. The Clients, a financial trader and a television producer, wanted the apartment to look like an art gallery and at the same time, have a comfortable domestic feel.

The spatial concept of expanding and contracting the volume of the loft allowed for big open spaces such as the living and dining areas at one end and smaller comfy bedrooms and playrooms at the other. In order to enhance the continuity of the space, we set up a line of sight with views of daylight at both ends. Big windows in the Living and Dining Room frame lovely views of the church across the street. Translucent sliding glass doors in front of the middle bedroom/office obscures work-related clutter.
