Gay Street Townhouse
West Village, NYC

The client loved the feel and patina of this old house but everything in this small Greenwich Village townhouse needed to be updated. We did a sensitive renovation of the wonderful eccentricities of the house: bringing in more natural light and updating the floor plan for modern living.

All of the old wood stairs and balusters were restored and the floorboards were salvaged and refinished by hand. The front facade was also restored for its historical value according to the guidelines of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.

Always looking for more opportunities to bring light into the house, We enlarged several windows at the upper floors and replaced windows at the Parlor floor with tall French doors and balconies overlooking the garden. Skylights were also added to the new third floor master suite.

The basement, with its two wood burning fireplaces and direct access to the garden, was reclaimed and renovated to include a new custom kitchen and dining area.
